Crazy wind out there today. Hard to keep your HR up riding south and hard to keep your speed up riding north. And the lake reached out and soaked my feet.

---

My bike is clicking. I think its in the crank/bottom bracket area, but I'm not sure. I'm mildly alarmed, but I won't get a chance to have it looked at before my race on Saturday. Hmmm.

Yes! Hard to keep the effort at rest week level and still make it to work this morning in under 90 minutes...jeez. Looking forward to ride home however...granted that the wind doesn't change!

F*** you wind! (shakes fist)

Tamara, do you have a crank with the external bottom bracket cups or the traditional internal? You're probably OK for the race, as long as the crank arms feel as if they're on tight. My guess is that the bearings are just getting worn or they've got dirt on the inside.

I realized that I had a loose crank arm after one race last year and was happy it didn't come off during the race (why I do my own repairs now and use a torque wrench). Good luck at the race and I hope it's a just simple BB replacement.

BTW, I'm around on the 4th (in Uptown) if you can't get into the shop and want to swing by and have me look at quick look at it.

Not sure what sort of bottom bracket I have, but it was just replaced a month ago. Everything was fine until I got my powertap back and started using it again -- I had the mechanic adjust my deraileur so my shifting would work with the cyclops wheel and my race wheel.

I'm loath to take it to a mechanic I don't know [present company excluded, of course] but I'm going to be near On the Route this evening . . . maybe I can get them to look at it quickly.

Otherwise Peter, is there a way I can get in touch? Its super nice of you to offer.

A clicking sound smells like a deraileur issue, especially if you just had it adjusted.

Loose BB's usually creak, not click.

That seems odd if you just had the bottom bracket replaced a month ago. Still, a little bit of dirt on a rainy ride can make stuff sound horrible. Could just be the threads need cleaning and regreasing. Also, the creaking/clicking could be a seatpost or bottle cage bolt. Yep, it sounds like it's coming from the crank when you ride, but it's sometimes something else. I had clicking that I thought was the bottom bracket, and it ended up being a loose frame bolt.

I'd trust OTR if you can get in. They really take care of the Burnham guys (just mention you're XXX)

Just shoot me an e-mail through the XXX forum if you want to get in touch (I'm hesitant to leave e-mail addresses on blogs).

Good luck!
